Former professional motorcycle racer, mechanical engineer and business owner Caesar Gonzalez is hoping to face the Democratic challenger in a run for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District.

Gonzales is a candidate in the Republican primary for the solidly Democratic area of Southwest Atlanta.

He is running against lawyer Calina Plotky.

Gonzales says he has lived in the 13th District since 1998. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in 2020.

He says his campaign’s priorities include vaccine choice, school vouchers and vocational training.

“Supporting vocational training would encourage high-paying manufacturers to relocate to the area, builds up the local economy and because you’re giving job training skills to local residents, it curbs gentrification,” said Gonzales.

Running in the Democratic primary are South Fulton Councilmember Mark Baker, former teacher Shastity Driscoll, former state Sen. Vincent Fort and incumbent Congressman David Scott.

Voting for the primaries takes place May 24.
