The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced Thursday the arrest of a 19-year-old who allegedly carried an AR-15 rifle on a Georgia college campus, prompting reports of an active shooter.

The Americus Police Department notified the GBI on Wednesday morning about a person walking around with a firearm near the dormitories on the Georgia Southwestern State University campus, according to a GBI press release. He was later seen leaving the campus with the firearm.

The GBI, campus police, Americus Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources responded to the active shooter call and cleared the campus. Georgia Southwestern also put the campus under a shelter-in-place order.
