The Scripps National Spelling Bee named a new champion Thursday after nine finalists went head-to-head, one of them being a two-time Georgia spelling bee champion.

The annual competition, held in Maryland, began Tuesday with 242 competitors from all across the country. The three-day spelling battle ended Thursday night with Faizan Zaki, a 13-year-old Texas student, taking home the trophy. This year marked the teenage speller’s fourth time participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and his first win.
