Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp suspended the state’s gas tax for two more weeks, according to an executive order he signed Friday ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

The suspension is going into effect on May 20 12:01 a.m. and will last through June 3.

Kemp previously signed into law House Bill 1199, authorizing a 60-day suspension of the motor fuel tax lasting until May 19 at 11:59 p.m. to combat rising gas prices due to the war in Iran.

“As Georgia families prepare for the Memorial Day travel weekend, they should not feel blindsided by prices at the gas pump,” said Kemp in a statement. “Along with our partners in the legislature, we’ve remained committed to giving hardworking Georgians relief wherever able, and this action is another fulfillment of that promise.”

The current Georgia state tax is 33 cents a gallon for gas and 37 cents for diesel.

Georgia’s gas price is currently $4.02, compared to the national average of $4.53.
