Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) is an organization that aims to empower people of faith to engage in issues such as environmental injustices, pollution, climate change and more.
Marqus Cole, who serves as the organizing director for GIPL, describes such work as planting “oaks of righteousness.” As a featured guest on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Cole talked with show host Rose Scott about how faith intersects with climate activism.
He further explained why he feels churches are the center of communities and why GIPL encourages church communities to adopt and advocate for practical climate solutions — such as using things like energy-saving light bulbs and putting solar panels on top of church buildings. He also talked about the importance of reducing suffering and making the world better for generations to come.
