The Netflix competition series “Rhythm + Flow” just wrapped its second season, and Atlantan Dre Jones, known as DreTL, went home with the title of the “next generation’s rap superstar.” After high-stakes battles and weeks of performing in front of legendary hip-hop artists, DreTL joined “City Lights” producer Summer Evans via Riverside to discuss his win.
“I just naturally say what’s coming out of my mouth because I believe it’s coming from the right place, and the right words are going to come out,” said Jones.
Jones’ final performance of his song “Nobody” earned him the title and a grand prize of $250,000. He said his next goal is to be one of the greatest rappers in the industry.
“I don’t do nothing just to do it. If I’m going to be that guy from Netflix a couple of years ago, then I’ll stop rap completely and pursue something else,” Jones said. “Whatever I do, I want to be great at. Not average, not just one out of two hundred rappers that are semi-famous, I want to be one of the greatest.”
While undergoing the competition, Jones attended Georgia State University for a bachelor’s degree in Music Industry with a concentration in Music Production and Recording. He graduated in December 2024.
