Georgia Tech announced Thursday that it has been named the recipient of a $100 million bequest from late alumnus John W. Durstine, the largest single financial gift in the institution’s history.

Durstine was a Birmingham, Alabama, native who attended Tech in the 1950s as a mechanical engineering major before going on to recieve an MBA from Harvard Business School and establishing a career with the Ford Motor Company that would last over three decades.

The institution noted that the alumnus, who died in February, maintained a close relationship with Tech throughout his lifetime. Durstine was inducted into the school’s College of Engineering Hall of Fame in 2014.
