Georgia Tech’s Savannah Campus May Become Film Studio
Georgia Tech wants to convert its 54-acre Savannah campus into a major film studio.
The 115,000-square-foot campus houses professional development for the state’s workforce training, applied research and K-12 programs, but those functions can be moved to a more centralized location, according to a Feb. 9 University System of Georgia Committee on Real Estate presentation.
Converting the campus could provide Georgia’s multibillion-dollar film industry with another large-scale studio.
It could also boost economic development dollars for Savannah, a popular filming location that needs more “sufficient, scalable, purpose-built sound stages and production facilities,” according to the presentation.
