Two festivities will likely be top of mind for many in metro Atlanta for the July Fourth weekend: running and grilling. This weekend, amid FIFA World Cup matches and fan events, the Atlanta Track Club is hosting its Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race, and America is celebrating its 250th anniversary. That means there are plenty of opportunities for fun in the sun.
For a special call-in show on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” host Rose Scott was joined by local skilled runners and grill masters.
For the first part of the show, Rich Kenah, the CEO of the Atlanta Track Club and a former competitive middle-distance runner, talked about what racegoers can expect this weekend at the 57th Peachtree Road Race. Alec Sunwoo, the owner of Highland Runners, also weighed in about the race, including his preparation for the competition and some of the do’s and don’ts everyone should know before competing in the world’s largest 10K. This year’s lineup includes a performance by Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-D.M.C and a fireworks show.
Then, for the second half of the program, Scott talked with Sunwoo, alongside grill masters Sawyer Vanderwerff, who works as WABE’s senior operations coordinator, and Tom Smith, an economist and a professor in the practice of finance. The group talked about all things grilling, including what to eat before and after the Peachtree Road Race, as well as some of their top grilling techniques.
Several “Closer Look” listeners participated in the conversation, offering questions and comments about how to prepare foods on the grill.
