Theater has the power to inspire social change. In that spirit, Horizon Theatre Company has taken on a heavy topic for its new production, “Project Dawn.”
The play is inspired by a real-life rehabilitation program in Philadelphia, which gives women with repeat prostitution offenses a chance to recover from the sex trade under court supervision. Along with tackling such themes as freedom, slavery, activism and obsession, the 14-person cast is made up of seven women who each portray a social worker or member of the court along with a woman involved in sex work.
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Horizon’s co-founder and director Lisa Adler along with actress Carolyn Cook and Lauren Morris, Horizon’s community engagement director.
