Before Lawrence Blackmon became a lawyer and a Mississippi state representative, he was a college student at Howard University.
Blackmon says a night of fun ended with an arrest and a misdemeanor. Despite the charges being dismissed, when it was time to apply for law school, he had to navigate finding a lawyer and then pay $2,500 to have the arrest expunged from his public record.
Fast forward, the experience inspired Blackmon and his Howard University college friend and serial entrepreneur, Roger Roman, to launch the justice-tech startup LegalEase. The web-based platform walks users through the expungement process.
