The King Center and voting rights advocacy group Black Voters Matter are uniting to influence a new generation of activists.

“MLK’s Letter from the Birmingham Jail: A Prophetic Guide to Power, Love, Protest, and Liberation” will debut at the center as a series of virtual and in-person workshops in May.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the letter, which celebrated its 60th anniversary of publication on April 16, as he was imprisoned in the city of Birmingham after participating in a series of nonviolent demonstrations. It was his response to statements from eight white religious leaders in the area who questioned his motives for being in their home city.
