Mayor Alan Hallman says the city of Hapeville delivers top-notch services despite its small size. He says Hapeville’s annual budget is $18 million and the city recently had a $2 million tax increase.
However, the city is feeling the financial impact of a hotel and motel tax exemption that legally allows companies, like Delta Air Lines, to be exempt from paying taxes for their bookings that are more than 30 days.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Hallman told show host Rose Scott that Hapeville has 11 hotels and four of them are almost exclusively being used by Delta Air Lines. He further discussed why he supports the push for House Bill 492, which did not pass the House by Crossover Day but could be reintroduced in a different form.
