New season of WABE’s 'Buried Truths' examines the life and death of Georgia preacher Clarence H. Pickett

Season 5 of WABE’s Peabody Award-winning podcast “Buried Truths” becomes available on Aug. 26th. This season, titled “A Preacher, a Policeman and a Physician,” delves into the killing of Clarence Horatious Pickett.

Pickett was born in Alabama and grew up in Georgia. At a very young age, he gained notoriety for his preaching abilities and traveled to several states. However, according to family members, Pickett also struggled with mental health issues and alcoholism.

Pickett worked as an advertising salesman for the Black newspaper “The Columbus World.”  In 1957, four days before Christmas, while on the way to pick up his paycheck, Pickett was arrested.
