A North Carolina man was convicted earlier this month for committing hate crimes targeting a Georgia rabbi and the state’s only Jewish member of the Georgia legislature.

Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, 32, was found guilty on Nov. 4 of one count of mailing threatening communications with the addition of a hate crime enhancement after mailing separate antisemitic threats to Georgia state Rep. Esther Panitch and Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar of Temple Beth Israel in Macon. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia announced the conviction on Thursday.

The harassment is related to both women being influential figures in the passing of Georgia House Bill 30, the state’s first legislation that defines antisemitism.
