Numbers of women-owned businesses increase

Nationwide, the number of women-owned businesses has increased by 54% over the past 15 years.  But in Georgia, the growth rate is nearly double the national pace.

Georgia has 283,000 women-owned firms.  According to an American Express survey, that number has soared 65% since 1997.

“One of the reasons I think we see a high number of women business owners in Atlanta is we do have so many great corporations,” says Andrea Borden, president of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
