According to a recent article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, research suggests about 10% of COVID-19 patients become long-haulers after contracting the virus.
Atlanta-based pulmonologist Dr. Jermaine Jackson defines long-haulers as patients who have lingering symptoms surpassing the acute stage of COVID-19, typically four weeks after becoming infected with the virus.
In an effort to treat long-haulers, hospitals across the country are opening up recovery clinics.
