Questions Swirl Around How Officials Handled Ahmaud Arbery Case

The name Ahmaud Arbery recently became an international one, thanks in large part to the video depicting his final moments.

Two white men with guns in a pickup truck appear to intercept Arbery, who is black, while he’s out for a jog. Shots ring out, and Arbery falls to the ground.

The shooting happened in February, but the men who are accused of the killing were only arrested after the video was leaked two weeks ago.

A lot has happened since then.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation of the case. Within days of doing so, they arrested Gregory and Travis McMichael.

That’s not the only investigation surrounding the killing.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr asked the GBI and the Department of Justice to look into how local prosecutors handled the case. There have also been questions about whether William “Roddy” Bryan, the man who took the video, was involved in the killing.

WABE’s Emma Hurt has been reporting on these issues from Brunswick. She talks with Martha Dalton about the ongoing investigations and potential legislation that could result from Arbery’s killing.
