A captivating panorama of landscapes and skies invites us on a journey through the worlds of two collaborating artists at Gallery 1740 inside Christ Church Presbyterian.
“Through Windows and Across Parks” showcases paintings and multimedia works by Savonna Nicole Atkins and Rachel Grant, both SCAD graduates and devotees of impressionist landscape art. Their works explore themes of motherhood, memory and our relationships with the natural world. The exhibition is on view through Feb. 7.
Atkins and Grant recently joined “City Lights” producer Summer Evans to share more about joining forces for this collaborative exhibition.
The artists’ shared studio in Lawrenceville has been a wellspring of creativity and collaboration. “Our critiques are honest, and the encouragement is constant,” Grant shared. This collaborative spirit extends to the exhibition, where Atkins’ textured textiles and cyanotype-based compositions honor the emotional and creative work of motherhood.
Meanwhile, Grant’s multimedia piece “In the Places We Dwell” incorporates video projection, kinetic sculptures and sounds like children’s laughter and distant trains, creating an immersive homage to home life.
