Much of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, received about two inches of rain from the storm systems that hit the area between Saturday and Tuesday.

“We built the drought we are in now over quite a few months of below-normal rainfall,” said Matt Cena, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. “It’s going to take quite a few months of normal to above normal rainfall to climb us out of that drought.”

The southern half the state received much more rain during the same time period, with some parts of south Georgia getting eight inches of rain.
