For many years of American history, road trips for Black Americans were difficult and even dangerous, so much so that a special guidebook for safe travel resources emerged known as the Green Book.

In 2010, Calvin Alexander Ramsey wrote and published the popular children’s story, “Ruth and the Green Book,” helping illuminate this history for young readers.

The children’s book has now been adapted into a puppet show by Jon Ludwig, and is onstage at the Center for Puppetry Arts through Feb. 25.

On Thursday, Ramsey joined “City Lights”, along with director Ludwig, to discuss the history of the Green Book and their production.
