Those wanting to get one last ride in at Six Flags Over Georgia before 2026 have until Sunday to do it. That’s a shorter window than in years past.
For the last decade, Six Flags has operated “Holiday in the Park” from December through early January. It offered themed shows, snacks and decorations during the park’s traditionally slower, colder months before it closed for the winter.
But the company previously announced it would discontinue the event this year in Georgia, effectively closing the park more than a month earlier than usual.
A spokesperson for Six Flags says it currently has no plans to bring the holiday event back, but will instead focus on the guest experience over its core operating season.
Holiday events are still planned at 14 of Six Flags’ other parks, the closest to Atlanta being Carowinds, south of Charlotte, North Carolina, where the company is headquartered.
Six Flags merged with competitor Cedar Fair last year, bringing its portfolio to over 40 properties in North America and making it the largest regional amusement park operator in the U.S.
In the fall of 2024, the company said it would invest $1 billion across all its parks over the next two years.
Earlier this year, that strategy delivered Georgia Gold Rusher to Six Flags Over Georgia — a new, first-of-its-kind roller coaster made by European ride manufacturer Intamin.
But with enhancements have also come cuts. Six Flags America in Maryland shuttered earlier this month after more than 50 years in operation. And California’s Great America must close after its 2027 season.
System-wide, the company hasn’t seen the success it hoped for this year. Six Flags’ former CEO Richard Zimmerman announced his departure after a disappointing second quarter, which he said was impacted by adverse summer weather and economic anxieties. After a modest third quarter, his replacement, seasoned entertainment executive John Reilly, was named president and CEO this week.
Though a specific date has not been set, Six Flags Over Georgia typically opens for the season in March.
