Snow began falling in metro Atlanta on Saturday morning with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting that some parts of the region could see several inches of accumulation before it’s through.
The snow showers arrived a couple of hours later than initially expected and should continue through mid-afternoon.
An area that includes Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Clayton, Cherokee, Rockdale, Newton and Henry Counties could receive 1 to 3 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 35 mph, according to a 10 a.m. Saturday update from NWS.
An area that includes Gwinnett, Forsyth and dozens of other counties in North and East Central Georgia could see 3 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday.

Metro Atlanta is under a winter storm warning through 1 a.m. Sunday.
“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” NWS said in the 10 a.m. update. “Gusty winds could result in areas of blowing snow and poor visibility. Plan on very difficult to impossible travel conditions.”
The Georgia Department of Transportation began brining roadways in some areas of the state on Friday and transitioned to dump trucks fitted with snow plows and spreaders on Saturday.
“As more snow and bitter winds make their way across the state this afternoon, please be mindful of road conditions and stay home as much as possible,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said on X.
600 flights canceled at Atlanta airport
There are about 3,500 power outages in Georgia as of 1 p.m., according to poweroutage.us. Carroll County in West Georgia accounts for about half of those outages. There were about 350 outages in Cobb and 100 in Fulton.
About 600 flights have been canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as of 1 p.m., according to FlightAware. There were also 160 flight delays.
Georgia continues to be under a state of emergency due to the storm, effective through Feb. 6.
Wind chills could hit below zero in Atlanta
It will be a bitterly cold weekend across Georgia. Atlanta temperatures are currently in the 20s with wind chills nearing the single digits, and the region won’t see temperatures above zero until Sunday afternoon.
NWS has issued an extreme cold warning for all of North and Central Georgia — including metro Atlanta — from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.
The high temperature in Atlanta on Saturday will be 29 degrees with a low of 16 degrees. Sunday in Atlanta will bring a high of 36 degrees and a low of 23, with a wind chill that could hit below zero
This is the second straight weekend of winter weather in Georgia. An ice storm triggered a state of emergency declaration and caused tens of thousands of power outages in metro Atlanta and over 1,000 flight cancellations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
