Back in 2016, there was national outrage over the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. In the days that followed, five Dallas police officers were shot and killed during a reported ambush. Dr. Brian Williams recalls that day because he was the trauma surgeon on duty and was unable to save the officers.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Dr. Williams discusses how that moment forced him to address racism, shootings, and respect for law enforcement.

He talks about his new book, “The Bodies Keep Coming,” which aims to confront gun violence, health inequities and systemic racism.
