The special election to fill a metro Atlanta state Senate seat appears to be headed for a runoff.

Democrats Jaha Howard, who won 32.63% of the vote as of Tuesday evening, and Roger Bruce, who won 25.37% of the vote, are headed for a Dec. 16 runoff.

Howard previously served on the Cobb County Board of Education and is the owner of A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta. Bruce is a longtime former state representative and represented District 61 from 2003 to 2023.
