The University of Georgia accepted over 15,800 freshmen for admittance for the upcoming fall semester after receiving a record-breaking number of applications nationwide.

UGA announced Tuesday that it received nearly 48,000 applicants vying for a spot in the Class of 2029, 12% more than the previous year and the largest application pool in the institution’s 240-year history.

Out of the students admitted, 80% are in-state, representing 154 of Georgia’s 159 counties. The 20% of incoming freshmen out-of-state represent 49 other U.S. states and Washington D.C.

“Year after year, the University of Georgia continues to attract incredibly talented students who arrive on campus ready to embrace their role as future leaders,” said President Jere W. Morehead in a press release. “I congratulate the students who have been admitted to the Class of 2029, and I look forward to welcoming them to our world-class learning environment this fall.”

The overall acceptance rate was 33%.

The middle 50% of admitted students held a core GPA between 4.08-4.35, SAT scores between 1,300-1,470 and ACT scores between 30-34. They also took 8-14 AP, IB or dual enrollment courses.

The chosen students also cumulatively hold more than 16,500 volunteering roles, over 23,000 leadership roles and participation on over 10,000 athletic teams.

But the acceptance letters are not done being sent out just yet. The university will announce on Friday the admission of transfer students for the summer and fall semesters. UGA aims to enroll one transfer student for every two new first-year students.
