This summer, writer, producer and director Tyler Perry is opening the gates of his studios to a new wave of “dreamers.”
The TPS Dreamers program is a seven-week paid internship, from mid-June through early August 2025, for students interested in pursuing a career in the film and television industry.
The internship will be based at the studio’s Atlanta headquarters, a 330-acre lot located at the historic former Fort McPherson army base.
At a rate of $18 per hour, selected participants will shadow and work throughout various production departments across the property. These roles include studio operations, casting, production assistance, script supervision, social and digital media, graphic design, wardrobe, location management, postproduction and legal affairs.
Those who apply must be able to work 40 hours per week throughout the program’s tenure.
“Tyler Perry Studios is committed to providing a solid learning foundation for TPS DREAMERS,” according to the Dreamers website. “This program allows participants to receive first-hand knowledge of the rewards and challenges of working for a multi-faceted entertainment company.”
According to the program, the first week will consist of interns touring the facility and being assigned to their respective departments. In weeks two through six, the young creatives will continue shadowing their respective mentors while simultaneously providing end-of-week status reports on their strengths, weaknesses and overall development.
In the final week, the interns will put together an “End of Program” project involving the skills they have learned during the internship.
The program will also include a weekly Friday “Fireside Chat” with a guest speaker from the studio personnel and a field trip outside the studio grounds.
According to program officials, the curriculum will allow its participants to “learn about TPS’s long and short-term goals and objectives, as well as gain an introductory experience into both the corporate and television production arenas.”
Those who apply must be a college student or enrolled in a TV or film training program and have a passion for pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. Other requirements include:
- Students must have completed their sophomore/second year in college before the start of the internship.
- Students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submission.
- Must be able to work as a local; TPS will not provide housing or travel costs for those who are selected.
