Vega Quartet Celebrates 10 Years Of Emory Residency
The New York Times heralded the Vega Quartet for its intoxicating playing, and the group has toured extensively across the world to major cities, venues and festivals.
But the quartet members are also educators. This season marks their tenth as Emory University’s Quartet in Residence. With Emory, they have created the Youth Chamber Music Program, host master classes and ensure the next generation of chamber music lovers.
That’s just one of the news items from the Vega Quartet. The Quartet in Residence program is also now permanently endowed. That means that there will always be a professional string quartet based in Atlanta.
In a final piece of news, the Quartet welcomes a new member. Elizabeth Fayette will take the reins of first violinist.
The Vega Quartet’s season kicks off Friday with a noon concert at the Michael C. Carlos Museum Reception Hall. Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts, the Quartet will play Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 7 in C along with the Beethoven String Quartet Op. 59 No. 1. On “City Lights,” Lois Reitzes interviewed violist Yinzi Kong, first violinist and new member Elizabeth Fayette, and William Ransom, the director of the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta and piano professor, who will be playing with the Quartet this season.
