Atlanta City Council members say recent pay raises will help attract talented candidates for public service positions that demand constant engagement.

The Atlanta City Council voted 13-2 last week to approve pay raises for the mayor, council president and council members, effective January 2026. Council members Andrea Boone and Michael Julian Bond voted against the raises.

Last set in 2020, salaries will increase from $202,730 to $236,865 for mayor, from $74,000 to $103,250 for council president, and $72,630 to $99,930 for council members. That’s about a 17% raise for the mayor and about a 40% raise for the council president and council members.
