Atlanta Airport Creates Cell Phone Lot

We’ve all circled around the airport while waiting to pick up traveling friends and family. But Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson has joined other airports by creating a cell phone waiting lot to help you pass the time.

Spanning along South Terminal Parkway, the 160-space lot is a free place to await those post-landing calls.

Airport spokesperson Al Snedeker says cars flowed in an out of the lot after it opened Thursday. It’s a win-win for travelers and the airport.

“This lot allows them to turn off their vehicle and wait for the call from their loved one or friend who’s coming to town. So it will cut out all those cars from circling around the airport roadways, which lead to congestion and extra pollution.”

Snedeker says the cell phone lot cost the airport little money since it used to be an employee parking lot. Hartsfield-Jackson plans to create two more cell phone lots – one near the North Terminal; and another at the new International Terminal.

Even though it’s a waiting area, you can’t leave your car. Unattended vehicles will be towed by police.
