A new rating system is in the works for Georgia day care centers so parents can get more detailed information about them. And so far, state education officials say more centers than expected have signed up for the first year. The new system rates centers on a scale of one to three stars, with three being the highest. The program puts child care centers through a more detailed evaluation than the standard licensing process does. But, centers have to meet the minimum licensing requirements to participate. Bobby Cagle, commissioner of the state Department of Early Care and Learning, says the response from day care centers has exceeded expectations.
“We had set 700 programs as the target,” Cagle says, “As of [Tuesday], we had 761 programs.”
Cagle says parents can find out if their child’s center is part of the program by looking for a “Quality Rated” seal.
