The man spearheading one of the largest Spanish independent digital news outlets in the country says the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Hispanic community incredibly hard. Since the start of the pandemic, the staff at his publication strengthened their efforts to serve the Hispanic community in a very personal way.

“We actually saved, I think, saved lives,” said Rene Alegria, president and CEO of Mundo Hispanico on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

In reflecting on 2020, Alegria told show host Rose Scott that Mundo Hispanico had to combat misinformation and the climate of fear and mistrust.

“Mundo was able to go in and again breakdown the facts to deliver information what was vital for the community.”

During the virtual conversation, Alegria also told Scott the Atlanta-based publication has been around for more than 40 years, and, to date, the publication remains a pillar through its digital national footprint and print editions.

“We are the gateway of Georgia’s Hispanic community, and so we don’t take that title lightly,” explained Alegria.
