How History Played a Role in Atlanta’s Storm Paralysis

Images of Atlanta’s paralysis from the January, 2014 snowstorm were sent around the world. Many people wondered how Atlanta could possibly have so much trouble responding to a couple of inches of snow.

Atlanta magazine deputy editor Rebecca Burns wrote an article for Politico magazine, in which she explained how the region’s government structure and politics set the historical stage for problems like the ones metro Atlanta experienced in the storm.

Burns talked about the points she made in the article, and the viral response to it, in a conversation with WABE’s Denis O’Hayer.
