The Founding, Future Of The New American Shakespeare Tavern

We’ve asked the major leaders of Atlanta arts organizations to give their thoughts on the “state of the arts.” That means we’re asking them how their field has changed and how technology specifically has played a role in that change.

One of these leaders is Jeff Watkins, Creative Director of New American Shakespeare Tavern. He’s been with the theater company since its inception in a back room of Manuel’s Tavern in 1984. Host Lois Reitzes started their conversation by talking about the beginnings of the theater.

Lois Reitzes began the second part of their conversation on change and technology by asking Jeff Watkins about why he thought Shakespeare was still relevant today.
