Georgia Medical Marijuana Legislation Meeting Set
Georgia lawmakers are planning to discuss combining medical marijuana bills that have been passed by the state House and Senate.
Republican State Rep. Allen Peake of Macon says he’s planning to meet with a powerful Georgia Senate committee on Thursday to discuss combining the bills.
Peake’s House bill would legalize cannabis oil to treat people with seizure disorders, cancer and seven other medical diagnoses.
A bill passed by Republican Sen. Lindsey Tippins of Marietta would establish a five-year clinical study of a marijuana extract for people under 21 with epilepsy. Tippins says Peake’s measure is too broad, but that compromise is possible.
Both bills passed their chambers overwhelmingly. Peake says his measure will be carried by Gov. Nathan Deal’s floor leader, Sen. Butch Miller, often a sign of executive support.
