King Center To Mark MLK Slaying With Call To Stop Violence
The nonprofit organization devoted to the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. plans to hold a remembrance on the anniversary of his assassination.
The Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change is calling for a moratorium on all violence on April 4, the 47th anniversary of King’s slaying in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Rev. Bernice King, daughter of the civil rights icon and CEO of the King Center, said the center is asking people to abstain from verbal violence, physical violence and gun violence on that day.
The center also plans to hold a forum on stopping violence that afternoon, followed by the laying of wreaths at the crypt of King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, and in front of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where King preached.
