DeKalb Officials Find Problems With Some Cityhood Ballots

The DeKalb County Election Commission says it has gotten dozens of calls Tuesday from voters concerned about getting the correct ballot to vote on cityhood.

Elections Director Maxine Daniels says her office did turn up a problem for voters who live on Briarcliff Road.

“We had one voter that was incorrect, and I ‘fess up to that,” says Daniels. “We did have one voter. And as a result of that voter calling in, we found a range of about 40 voters that were incorrectly processed.”

Voters who live in the areas designated by the Georgia Legislature as the prospective cities of LaVista Hills and Tucker will decide whether they want to form those cities or remain residents of unincorporated DeKalb County.

One side of Briarcliff Road near LaVista Road is in the LaVista Hills cityhood map; the other side is not. Daniels says her office alerted elections officials at the St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church precinct, who then corrected the ballots.

Daniels says, if you think there is a problem with your ballot, make sure an elections official at your precinct calls the main elections office before you cast your vote not after.
