This Is What UGA Coach Kirby Smart Will Be Paid

Along with his usual salary, Kirby Smart will receive $3,600 worth of shoes and clothing from Nike.

The new University of Georgia football coach Kirby Smart is set to be paid a $3.75 million a year for the next five years, according to a memorandum of understanding released Sunday on the UGA Athletics website.

The university will pay $400,000 of Smart’s salary, while the remaining $3.35 million will come from the University of Georgia Athletic Association, Inc. in return for endorsements and radio, television and sponsored event appearances.

Smart can also receive bonuses depending on how well the Bulldogs perform each season – up to $1.6 million if the team wins the SEC championship, wins the national championship and finishes in the top five in either the AP or Coaches poll.

Basic Expenses

$400,000 “base salary” paid by UGA;
$3.35 million “supplemental income” paid by University of Georgia Athletic Association, Inc. for making no less than 12 endorsements or appearances yearly, no less than 12 appearances at Bulldog Club and other fundraising events yearly, and at most 3 appearances for Nike;
$3,600 worth of shoes and clothing from Nike;
$1,800 monthly stipend to rent or buy one or two cars as well as $5,000 annually for car insurance and other related expenses;
All moving expenses and up to 60 days of temporary housing and storage;
Use of a 25 seat box and six complimentary tickets at home football games, six complimentary tickets at away football games; six complimentary tickets to the SEC championship game and post-season bowl. Smart can also buy up to 50 tickets for the SEC championship game and post-season bowl.
One paid membership to Athens-Country Club.

Performance Bonuses

$1 million if UGA wins the national title;
$600,000 if UGA plays in the national championship game;
$500,000 if UGA reaches the national semifinals;
$200,000 if UGA plays in the Sugar, Roe, Orange, Cotton, Fiesta or Peach bowls;
$100,000 if UGA plays in the Citrus Bowl;
$75,000 if UGA plays in the TaxSlayer, Outback, Belk, Music City, Texas or Liberty bowls;
$50,000 if UGA plays in the Birmingham or Independence bowls;
$200,000 if UGA finishes in the top five of either the AP or Coaches polls;
$50,000 if UGA finishes in the top 33 percent of SEC football teams in both graduation Success Rate and Academic Progress Rate as determined by the university;
$50,000 if Smart is named SEC coach of the year;
$100,000 if he is named national coach of the year.
