New Creative Campus To Bring Start-Up Style To Alpharetta

It’s pretty common in Midtown Atlanta to see high-tech companies occupy loft-style office space with concrete floors, just a few walls and exposed ceilings. But that trend of open offices is now expanding to an Atlanta suburb.

According to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, TPA Group will develop a 220,000-square-foot campus geared toward the cluster of Fortune 1000 tech companies in Alpharetta. While several such loft office projects have been proposed in Midtown Atlanta, they remain a rarity in Alpharetta — which has the largest concentration of tech employees in metro Atlanta. Consider this: the Midtown market has about 1.25 million square feet of loft office inventory, while Alpharetta has just 110,000 square feet, mostly concentrated in the Avalon mixed-use development.

The 24-acre project will be called Edison. It will have two 100,000-square-foot buildings connected to a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse that will have a conference center, coffee bar and gym. The buildings will feature the accoutrements that appeal to tech tenants — concrete floors, 15-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and garage-style roll-up doors that bring the outdoors into the office space. An acre of green space — dubbed “The Quad” — will serve as an informal gathering spot.
