In January, “City Lights” rolled out a new series called “The Art of Teaching,” featuring Georgia educators whose dedication and creativity make a lasting impact on students, often turning their passions into professions. This installment spotlights Dr. Heath Franklin, professor of film, media and theater at Georgia State University.

Franklin is himself a director and cinematographer. Within the last year, three of his films have screened at major festivals. His students get hands-on experience being part of the creative process.

In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with Professor Franklin about his approach to the art of teaching.

“We’re not making student films, we’re making feature films with students. That’s my goal,” says Franklin.
