About a hundred Donald Trump supporters gathered at the Cobb County GOP headquarters to watch the inauguration Friday morning.

Fried chicken was served while American flags and plenty of Make America Great Again gear were on vibrant display.

Jerry Ramsey of Cobb County called today a historic moment for the country.

“This past eight years has been horrible, but I believe the young people right now are going to find that in the next four to eight years there’s going to be so much opportunity, so many jobs that, if you have no skill, you can get a job,” he said.

A moment later, Ramsey and his son cheerfully waved goodbye to President Obama as he flashed across a TV screen.

Melanie Ensley of Union County said she’s looking forward to changes in immigration policy.

“I’m hoping that he’ll deport all the illegals, and if they want be here and come legally and go through the process, welcome,” Ensley said.

“The illegal aliens that’s coming over here, they’re destroying this country,” she said. “The crimes they’re committing while they’re here, the women they’re raping while they’re here.”

Research from U.S. Census data shows immigrants are responsible for fewer crimes than native-born citizens.

Shari Dobbs, a Daughters of the American Revolution member, showed up wearing a big American flag bow around her neck.

“We have family for generations that are American patriots. And we feel like this is a day we can celebrate our heritage, the American heritage and all that’s great about America,” she said, calling the election of Trump “another kind of revolution.”

Dobbs, who’s in her late 60s, said she’s never seen the country as politically divided. She said she believes Trump will be the president to bridge the gap.

Asked about the 1.8 million estimated protesters expected at this weekend’s “Women’s March” and demonstrations taking place locally and across the country, Dobbs responded, “I think if you really dig down, you will find out that a lot of these are just paid protesters.” She said she believes businessman George Soros is among the funders.

Nancy Petriccione had tears in her eyes as the 45th president was sworn in.

“It’s better than watching the ball drop on New Year’s Eve. There’s a change in the atmosphere. You just feel change is coming. Things are looking up,” she said.

Stronger borders, public safety and a better economy are among Petriccione’s wishes for the future – all of which she says she wants Trump to approach with a “no-nonsense” attitude.
