Atlanta United FC Kicks Off First Major League Soccer Season
Atlanta United FC has sold more than 30,000 season tickets for its first season in Major League Soccer.

Professional soccer is returning to Atlanta.
The city’s new Major League Soccer team, Atlanta United FC, is kicking off its first season this weekend.
Dan Courtemanche, executive vice president of communications for MLS, said the team has a good shot of bringing together Atlantans of all backgrounds.
That’s partly because the league hasn’t been around that long.
“We are the new kids on the block, Major League Soccer,” Courtemanche said. “And due to that fact, there just aren’t many transplants in Atlanta that have connections to MLS clubs.”
Thus far, Atlanta United has sold more than 30,000 season tickets. That’s more than any other expansion team in the league.
Atlanta United is playing the New York Red Bulls at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The Atlanta team eventually will be playing home games at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium when it opens later this year.
