Spivey Hall is celebrating an anniversary this year. But it’s not a great performer or composer’s anniversary, it’s an instrument’s. The Albert Schweitzer Memorial Organ at Spivey is getting a 25th anniversary concert.

The organ was built by the firm of Fratelli Ruffatti in Padua, Italy and its installation was overseen by Emily Spivey.

“This instrument turned out to be one of their true masterpieces,” Spivey Hall’s organist-in-residence Alan Morrison tells “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes. “It’s a very large instrument, which offers a lot of color (in terms of sound), which is an organist’s dream in making artistic decisions. You can achieve endless possibilities, and every organist who comes to play brings something new to it.”

The anniversary celebration includes performances by Morrison as well as organists Cherry Rhodes and Ken Cowan, who will team up for a six-handed arrangement of Sergei Prokofiev’s “The Love of Three Oranges.”

The 25th Anniversary Concert of Spivey Hall’s organ takes place Saturday, May 13 at 3 p.m.
