Adding to his laurels, he recently received the acclaimed Abbott Award, a lifetime achievement award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation. His accomplishments were also recently featured in ArtsAtl’s legacy series.

And while he spends most of his time making productions elsewhere, Atlanta will always be his home. This is where he started True Colors Theatre, a theater company committed to diversity and inclusivity.

“I love Atlanta and True Colors because it’s my artistic home,” said Leon in an interview with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes. “It’s where you can call elected officials by their first name and sit on the porch and wave to folks.”

Leon’s upcoming project is “Children of a Lesser God,” a revival he hopes to take to Broadway. That is set to open in Massachusetts at the Berkshire Theatre Group.
