The students say they’re having problems with their visas, according to university spokeswoman Jennifer Scott.  The two were supposed to begin their residency programs in Augusta on July 1, but they’re still not stateside.

“One of the students has been denied a visa, but is appealing. The other’s is just hung up,” Scott said.

She says the school doesn’t know if the visa issues are related to the White House travel ban.

“We couldn’t even speculate as to what is hanging up this one resident’s visa and why this other person has been denied,” Scott said.

She says the university isn’t allowed to say what country, or countries, the residents are from because they are not technically students or employees of the school yet.

Emory University was contacted to see if its students are having similar problems but didn’t respond before publication deadline.

The Augusta University residency program has 542 medical residents. Forty-three have “J-1” visas, which allow them to obtain medical training in the United States.
