Bottoms Stresses Equity, Transparency In First State Of City Address
Just a few months after her inauguration, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms gave her first State of the City address.

Equity and transparency: That was the message Wednesday from Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in her first State of the City address.
She recommitted her administration to a plan to spend $1 billion on affordable housing, and she announced a new city office focused on equitable policies.
“As Atlanta continues to grow, it is important that we remember to look back and pull forward residents, communities and businesses that are being left behind,” Bottoms said.
Bottoms said her office is also reviewing changes to city ethics policies. That’s as her predecessor still dominates the news.
There’s the federal investigation into bribery that began during former Mayor Kasim Reed’s term. Now the city is reviewing some big bonuses Reed gave staff at the end of last year.
But Bottoms didn’t mention Reed’s name, and he was noticeably absent from the speech. Instead, Bottoms talked about ethics.
“What has been broken must be fixed,” she said. “We will repair the trust between the people who help make Atlanta work and the people for whom work is being done.”
One issue the new mayor did not address was cybersecurity. That’s as the city still tries to recover from a cyberattack weeks ago.
