When is a falsehood a lie? Especially when uttered (or tweeted) by high-ranking officials like the president of the United States?

Journalists are increasingly caught up in this debate and continuing it, even as they get demanding feedback from readers, viewers, and listeners who have already taken sides.

David Hazinski is a former NBC correspondent who has helped launch more than a dozen international networks and teaches journalism at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

He joined Denis O’Hayer on “Morning Edition” to consider when journalists should call falsehoods lies and the impact of that conversation on the media environment.
