Kids In The Hall’s Dave Foley Performs At Atlanta’s Dad’s Garage

If you’re a fan of sketch comedy, chances are excellent you already know who Dave Foley is.
He is a member of the comedy troupe Kids in the Hall. That show’s five season run found him playing a long list of memorable characters: the lonely sarcastic man, the shopkeeper who speaks not a word of English, film actor Bruno Puntz Jones and more. He led the sitcom NewsRadio and has lent his voice to animated films such as “A Bug’s Life,” and “Monsters University.”
Foley performs at Atlanta’s Dad’s Garage Theatre this weekend.
The actor says that though he’s been performing comedy since he was a teenager and despite his first project becoming successful and attaining cult status, he has difficulty seeing himself as an “elder statesman” in the scene.
Still, the show’s influence can be found in contemporary television.
“Fred Armisen has said very kindly that when they’re working on something on [IFC’s] ‘Portlandia,’ they’ll think ‘okay, how would Kids in the Hall end this?’” Foley says.
“I think there may have been some influence on [Comedy Central’s] ‘Key & Peele. I think they carried on some of the filmic stuff that we were doing. I think they did it better than we did.”
Foley is performing shows on Friday and Saturday night at Dad’s Garage.
