‘Flight Of The Conchords’ Comedian Rhys Darby Performs At Dad’s Garage
You may know him as the hapless band manager, Murray, on the HBO series “Flight of the Conchords,” or you may recognize New Zealand-born comedian Rhys Darby from his role as Anton the werewolf in the mockumentary “What We Do in the Shadows,” or as Nigel the game guide in “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”
Darby is in Atlanta this weekend for a series of improv shows at Dad’s Garage Theatre Company.
Improv, as it turns out, was crucial in the creation of “…Conchords,” the show that launched his career.
“Will Saunders from the BBC said ‘let’s make a show out of this,” Darby tells “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes. “He literally followed us around with a MiniDisc player and a recorder and we would improvise band meetings. So that turned into a six part radio series which did really well.”
The actor is now at work on the follow up to his children’s book, “The Top Secret Undercover Notes of Buttons McGinty.”
