City of Atlanta Opposes Conversion Therapy, Calls State To Do Same

Atlanta’s City Council voted unanimously to oppose what’s known as conversion therapy.

Attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation are widely discredited by the medical community. Monday, Atlanta’s City Council voted unanimously to oppose what’s known as conversion therapy.

The resolution also calls on the state and professional regulatory boards to prohibit conversion therapy, also called reparative therapy.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the well-being of the LGBTQ community shouldn’t be endangered simply for “living their truth.”

State Rep. Matt Wilson, D-Brookhaven, introduced a bill this year that would outlaw conversion therapy in Georgia, but the measure failed to go anywhere.
